World Travel Market (WTM) is a staple in our events calendar each year. The event is well planned and executed plus it offers a bit of everything from exhibiting and networking to workshops and evening events.

It's almost time again for WTM London and I wanted to share 4 workshops I'd highly recommend to anyone from the tours, activities and attractions industry.

1. Join our friends at Arival as they host their own session

Title: What's Next for the Best Part of Travel: Tours, Activities, Attractions & Experiences

Date: 5th November 2019

Time: 1:30pm - 3:00pm

Location: South Gallery Rooms 20 & 21

Arival launched Arival Event Berlin in March 2019 and we were delighted to be partners. Lead by co-founders Douglas Quinby and Bruce Rosard, this event was extremely educational, enjoyable and innovative. Most importantly, it was solely about the tours, activities and attractions industry.

Giving us a taste of what is to come in March 2020, Arival will host their own session during WTM London - Let's call it mini-Arival. Highlights include a welcome introduction from Douglas on the changes underway in the experience sector (1:30pm - 1:45pm), an 'Ask Me Anything' interview with Klook CCO Wilfred Fan (1:45pm - 2:05pm) and a 'Roundtable Debate: OTAs, Technology & the Future of Distribution' with experienced panelists, including Musement Co-founder and COO Claudio Bellinzona (2:05pm - 2.30pm).

2. Hear how technology is combating overtourism in Barcelona

Title: Using Technology to Manage Accommodation & Tourism Responsibly in Barcelona

Date: 4th November 2019

Time: 11:45am - 12:30pm

Location: Middle East & Africa Inspiration Zone

We've written regularly about the damaging impact high tourism volume has had to destinations such as Boracay and Venice. You can read about this in our Travel Trend Report 2019

To overcome the overcrowding effects, the city of Barcelona is going one step further and it is currently designing, through Eurecat (The Technological Centre of Catalonia), a 'flows management research program' to help to manage the affluence of visitors at different places. The aim is to use data to reduce tourist pressure at specific sights during set times to provide a better visitor experience.

Could this be the future of destination management?

3. Learn how to use content to drive traffic

Title: Using Original Content and Social Media to Seamlessly Sell Travel Online

Date: 4th November 2019

Time: 10:45am - 11:30am

Location: Global Stage

We are asked by tour suppliers around the world for low-cost solutions to drive more traffic to their website. If you have asked this question then this is a workshop to join.

Culture Trip is one of the top three travel brands on Facebook reaching around 20 million social media users each month. They promote over 3,000 new articles monthly as well as videos and reviews all to drive direct bookings. In this session, Culture Trip will talk about the psychology of delivering quality, off-beat and surprising content to engaged readers who are then invited to experience by booking seamlessly online.

4. Understand the latest international tourism trends

Title: Megatrends Shaping the Future of Travel

Date: 4th November 2019

Time: 11:30am - 12:30pm

Location: Press Conference Theatre - International Media Centre

As you know, at TrekkSoft we write our highly anticipated Travel Trend Report each year, and we actually get a lot of our insights from WTM London. This event in particular will be in our calendar as we want to hear about the global megatrends in the travel and tourism industry for 2020.

Lead by Euromonitor International’s latest research, this session will give insights into upcoming trends in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East and Africa. The key focus is on major drivers, consumer behaviour and attitudes that are impacting travel companies’ bottom line.
